Everything is a mixed bag in life!
Nothing can ever be ‘all good’ or ‘all bad’.

Over the past 40 years of teaching higher order critical thinking skills we have seen that one of the most useful SOT thinking algorithms is the GBB.
When you do a GBB you deliberately judge the Good, the Bad and then you go even further to discern what could be Better.
G = GOOD. The good things about an idea why you like it.
B = BAD. The bad things about an idea why you don’t like it.
B = BETTER. What could be much better about an idea.
Everyone agrees that we should all be more broad-minded, more tolerant, more thoughtful, considerate, and more creative. Why don’t people THINK? How often have you heard that question?
It is easy to say to someone, “Why don’t you be more broad-minded?” But it is not so easy to actually do it. This is because it is impossible to focus attention on general attitudes like the ones mentioned above. They sound great as slogans and battle cries but have proved to be of little value as operating tools which can actually be practised and used.
However, a GBB is specific. It is possible to ask someone to “Do a GBB on this.” The thought-leader then takes pride in the skill of being able to deliberately see the Good, Bad and Better points in the situation.
DO A GBB!

Instead of just saying that you like an idea, or you don’t like it, you can use a GBB.
When you use a GBB, you give the good points, the bad points, and also the points which are neither good nor bad but are much better.
You can use a GBB as a way of managing ideas, suggestions, and proposals.
You can ask someone else to do a GBB, or you can be asked to do one yourself.
DFQ #19:
Do a GBB!Tomorrow is the last lesson in this 30-day leadership pipeline so today is a chance to reflect on your journey so far. Do a GBB on this month’s training!
• List 3 GOOD things.
• List 3 BAD things.
• List 3 things that could be BETTER.Post your GBB below:

– List 3 GOOD things. – Training/Skills, Increase Efficiency, Thought Processing
– List 3 BAD things. – Time Involved, Applying/Remembering what is learnt, Lost existing Good/Better Practices.
– List 3 things that could be BETTER. – Career Prospects, Increased Revenue, Better Management
GOOD – PTO -THINKING MORE REALISTIC GOALS TO ACHIEVE
BAD – NOT FOLLOWING THROUGH WHAT I HAVE SET
BETTER-CLEAR DIRECTION IN LIFE
Good: Peeling the Orange; Thinking a lot deeper about leadership; strengths analysis.
Bad: Disclosing private information about myself; Strengths and weaknesses; A bit overwhelming some of the questions.
Better: Hard to answer don’t know why probably need to think about this a bit more. Is that ok?
Three good things- 1. Training for improvement is always good. 2. Free training is even better. 3. Lots of good information to consider.
Three bad things- 1. Found some sections to be overly repetitive. 2. Some aspects of PTO weren’t explained well and others over focussed. 3. Timing of lessons not ideal- couldn’t get to them quickly enough as the stockpiled over the weekend.
Three things that could be better- 1. Gave some feedback regarding repetition causing me to disengage and got no response at all. Why ask for feedback if it is to be ignored? 2. Flesh out PTO in other areas- who, what and why. 3. Perhaps consider that it’s not convenient for many to be getting these lessons over the weekend, which results in a backlog come Monday…
Good: fresh ideas, the course gets you thinking
Bad: some seemingly pointless questions, no feedback, the feeling that I could just write anything, “is anybody reading this?”
Better: Perhaps change the format to a forum so we could offer feedback to other members
Good:
1. This month’s ATLC training forced me to make time for the daily lesson.
2. It forced me to think and record my response to at least some of the DFQs.
3. It made me eagerly look forward to the daily lesson. Ofcourse now I am relieved that it is almost over.
Bad:
1. I was unable to answer some of the DFQs.
2. My health is in poor shape and I need to do whatever it takes to shape up so that I am in a position to think straight.
Better:
1. I could have answered all the DFQs.
2. I could improve on the responses that I gave to some of the DFQs.
