ATLC #18 – Opportunities and Happiness

What are the three most important opportunities facing you in your business/career/life right now where you need to PTO?

What turns you on?

What are you ‘passionate’ (overused, I know) about?

What are your strengths?

OPPORTUNITIES

Here are some examples listed by previous members:

– to buy some land
– to get a better job
– to help the sick and the poor
– to learn acting
– to start playing the piano again
– to grow their business; to go back to school
– to raise their income
– to give up smoking
– to improve their golf.

DFQ #18:
PEEL AN OPPORTUNITY ORANGE!
Choosing one of the three opportunity areas you thought of above give yourself an orange to peel. Complete (with who, when and where) the following sentence:

Regarding my (#1 opportunity) I will PTO ….

  1. Regarding my biggest opportunity at the moment is to diversify my work into several new and exciting areas which I am passionate about and which are definetly acheivable. To do this I need to collborate with the best research groups nationally and internationally I have made the contacts discussed the ideas and I now need to put this on paper by the end of the month and submit to and convince the relevant authorities who may actually fund the research.

  2. Opportunities I have many, the hardest part is to choice the top three.

    1. Opportunity for learning, one of my passions. I will be embarking on an overseas trip to see the best of Europe in my industry.
    2. Startup of two new plants interstate
    3. Change in our M2K package use or replacement

Regarding my No1 opportunity for leaning and experiencing new environments I will PTO and ensure I take the time to observe, ask many questions and make detailed notes with pictures. This will enable me to extract any great ideas and implement them in our facilities.

  3. Regarding the opportunity to improve my health and fitness I will PTO, using some of the time freed up by peeling the previous problem orange. I will do this by varying my current exercise routine and establishing a weekly plan of activities.

  4. My opportunities first middle and last are developing and securing a project. This is partly driven by the challenge, the benefits arising from the project and the consequences of not securing the project. So I’d best get on with the collaboration and planning.

  5. Some new projects in my portfolio that are new areas of science for me, they are not preforming well. the opportunity is to take the time to learn not to judge the project leaders. The opportunity is to take knowledge from other areas and contacts and to apply them in turning around these projects to kick goals.

  6. Regarding my #1 opportunity of new collaborations with existing researchers, I will seek to be involved in a new development that has recently been initiated by confirming my interest by the end of this week.

  7. Regarding my opportunity to collaborate on a paper on the theory of DNA library complexity I will go into a discussion with no prejudices.

Regarding my opportunity to increase my fitness I will go into training with a positive attitude.

Regarding my opportunity to aid in the migration of software to a new platform I will be assertive in putting across my views.

  8. Currently, my no.1 opportunity is to try to read the world economy correctly; and hopefully take corrective action(s) to preserve the value of whatever (little) wealth I have. The US (economy) is in great strife. The US$ is plummeting and would continue to do so. Will there be hyper-inflation, in which case our money in the bank would be worth a lot less; or will there be a depression, in which case our stock market will nosedive. Each of these situations will present its own opportunities. Given all these uncertainties, it would seem that buying gold would be a safe bet, at least for the moment. I will continue to monitor the economic situation.

  9. Biggest problem is biggest opportunity as well.

I’ll pick a slightly less important opportunity instead.

On Sunday I have the opportunity to run a personal best (OK, it’s a PB after turning 50 – I hope that counts!) in the Melbourne Half Marathon, and run into the MCG at the same time.
I have done all the training (well, there’s never enough) I believe is required to break through the 95 min barrier quite comfortably.
I am very excited about this, and seeing my family in the MCG, and am convinced that my right hamstring will lose its tightness.
