ATLC #04 – Leadership Thinking

My view is that leadership thinking can be based on a simple formula of three imperatives:

Escape + Search = Think

Escape + Search = Think

Escape + Search = Think

Click through and read about The 59 Second Course in Thinking and then think further about why these three imperatives were chosen. After that return here and do today’s DFQ.

DFQ #04:
Post your comment on how you think
ESCAPE + SEARCH = THINK might help
you to become a much better leader.

  1. Escape from the reality defined and imposed on you by your own weaknesses or those of others e.g. it is impossible; we’ve always did it this way; etc.
Search for a reality that is closer to The Reality which makes you stronger and thus better able to lead yourself and others.

  2. Leadership is leading oneself first taking full control of oneself by escaping from our CVS- searching for a better BVS at all times how fast we do that will tell how effective we are as leaders.

When you can lead yourself then it becomes very easy to lead others. Follower need to see in the leader some greater values that makes them to follow you the leader. Escaping is the main simple approach when adopted clearly can have greater impact on the followers. Thinking effectively through CVS-BVS escape+search=think will equals to leadership and a better one.

  3. The feeling behind this logic is that you are never ever trapped no matter what the situation. the person who thinks this through will find there is a better way. Escape the cvs by searching for the bvs by using his necktop computer will find the better way.

  4. I think leader is who can give to the followers some new ideas and inspiration for improvement. It is not posible if a leader does not searh it. I see a leader as a person who goes out from the building to the street to find something. It is like escape. So thinking is logical combination of escape and search which stimulate first one. If right thinking stimulates leadership. Right escape and search may stimulate leadership through thinking)

  5. Escape+ Search=Think may help me become a better leader by ensuring I am accepting the differences in the solutions offered. When we look at an option without thought ie: we assume what the solution is. We miss out on something important more often than not.Thinking is not wasting time. Time often stops to allow us to find the right solution. If you are unable to think, just wait. The solution will appear. Not all things have a solution to change, we may have to compromise, but that may lead us to meet new people and find new ideas.

  6. You always have a better option available it only a matter of thought and application which makes the difference. Do you want to continue with your current thought or action or look at paralleled option which is much more meaningful.

  7. I think two possible ways that leaders can benefit from ESCAPE + SEARCH = THINK. One is through their own strategic behaviour in tackling problems and opportunities. It is useful to ESCAPE + SEARCH = THINK. It means their is always hope of ‘escape’ or to make a situation better. The other benefit for leadership is if they can pass on this message of hope to their followers. often followers feel trapped by the status quo and also wish to escape or at least have the hope that they can escape.
    ESCAPE + SEARCH = THINK

  8. I think the first thing is to recognise the situation I need to escape from . Then where I need to escape to. By searching ways out and ways forward I can find a better way . So asking the the right questions and keeping asking until I find an answer is the way forward .

  9. I usually stay locked in the CVS. This because education, culture, and even religion.

Once you brake the chains of CVS, suddenly you have many BVS options.

  10. Well, I remember a storey; a small detachment of soldiers were fighting a desprate enemy onslaught. Vastly outnumbered and badly hammered by enemy fire. Suddenly a soldier caming panting to the commander and reported that they were surrounded on all sides and escape was out of question.
The officer coolly answered; ‘Now we can attack the enemy from any side we wish.

BVS gives us a chance to make the best choice from the available options. It sets us apart from the crowd and transforms a person into a natural Leader.
