Identifying our own strengths and then capitalising on them is paramount for a sucessful career. Recently I have tried to travel a less known career path which could have been sucessful but after reassessing my strenghts I have chosen a different path that I am confident will succeed.
What is most interesting is the reality that we all have strengths – often hidden as we focus on our weaknesses. It is clear that no one has difficulty in articulating what we are good at and how it can be shown in real life situation. So – when doing personal development – should I focus on building my strengths more or work on my weaknesses…….which would lead to better results?
it is very valuable to clearly state strengths as well as intentions…
building in review and reflection points like this is an effective strategy
learning that i have too much on my plate these days to remain unorganized!
The most challenging situations often offer the best insights and opportunities to learn. Stories can be more powerful than theory.
The stories about the foster children on weekends and Sonny on holidays showed aspirational demonstration of strengths.
Identifying strengths is very critical. Typically people tend to work on their weaknesses . However improving strengths is very important. I beleive its easier to improve strengths as its your natural nature and improving strengths further makes you a better leader and gives you more ROI.
That sometimes we don’t even know what strenghts we have, but when a test tells us in what we are good at then we notice it . Personally I feel more confident when I have to use my strenghts , that is why it is important to know myself
There is ALWAYS a BVS … no matter what.
And the process of finding it is truly a joy … and the growth that follows is always satisfying … and then curiosity and love of learning and persistence kick in and again the search for another BVS starts again.
It’s a wonderful way to live …
The most important thing I personally got from the training on strength was that for the first time I really struggled, fought & forced myself to concentrate on recognizing my own power houses. We normally avoid talking about our strengths either out of modesty or out of sheer ignorance.
After taking the test of strengths, I was surprised to know that Open mindedness was my greatest virtue. I feel revitalized. Revisiting one’s self & reflections help people overcome negativity and endorses feel good factor.
First off, there was a similarity in the strengths posted – which could be the type of people attracted (curious, love learning, etc), or else the way the test orders things.
The next thing to notice is that people can’t count. I must admit to also running off at the mouth & never counting the words, for fear of over-pruning, but some didn’t seem to bother. The story is more important than the instructions.
There are some who didn’t talk of themselves, as such. Others who wouldn’t talk at all. Yes, the mere act of doing the task, no matter how badly, is better than doing nothing.
So, there is the important learning – repetition for everyone, those who can get something out of it, will.
The most important thing is to recognise what my strengths are and then try to improve and apply them.
