ATLC #05 – More on Leadership Thinking

6principles

In addition to Escape + Search = Think leadership thinking can also incorporate 6 principles which we emphasise. I have encouraged trainers and leaders to understand and master the Six CAP Principles.

Now click through and read about these six CAP principles and try to explore in your own mind the value of each of these ideas, then come back and do today’s DFQ.

DFQ #05:

Choose one of the six CAP principles, and say why you think a better understanding of that principle will help you to become a much better leader.

NOTE: After you post your comment today you’ve completed 5 DFQs and the first week of the 4 weeks of the 30-day Pipeline. That’s good. It means you are already establishing new cognitive patterns. Keep it up!

You may have noticed that I sent you 1 lesson a day for 3 days then missed a day. After this lesson, I’ll miss another day and then send you lesson #6 which starts the second week. That means you get 5 DFQs every 7 days.

  1. Estabilishing the Measurement Model for skills and goals is a good way to progress monitoring. A better understanding in that model might be very helpful.

  2. Hours of Practice is a great metric to measure for a particular skill.

    Measurement:
In order to control important variables I have to make the commitment to start measure them regularly.

    Commitment to Action:
Trainees designed specific “action commitments” on special planners including times, dates, places, etc. Keeping a diary and a planning book to scribble notes/diagrams/mindmaps in. Thats my way of learning to lead myself, to become a much better leader.

  3. Developing a thorough understanding and conviction of the difference between merely having knowledge on a matter and owning a skill of performance in it. The virtue of virtuosity. Understanding the strategy of practice and repetition.

    Turning knowledge into skill.

    Applied knowledge is power.

  4. I would like to understand “#5 Effective Follow-Up” better. It is imperative a leader knows and understands what has been achieved. The use of Qualitative and Quantitive figures to achieve this understanding is extremely difficult for me. I am more a ‘measure by feel’ type of person. Definately not sufficient in today’s business envionment.

  5. I have chosen CAP Principle number three. I understand the actual text, however, obviously I am not perceiving the definitive importance of this principle to the point of actively performing this principle; self initiation is difficult for me. A better understanding of this principle is required. My perspective has defaulted to the fact that unless I am actually enrolled into an education program, I tend not to self-discipline to incorporate this particular principle as a consistent and necessary part of training. Understanding that this is an essential part of the CAP Principles to achieve success and forward progression, requires more effort on by behalf to be habitually self disciplined and stick to a regime of practice where I actually measure in HOP my training. To facilitate this principle I will begin self disciplinary actions today in regard to my tarot reading lessons; so that I actually measure my learning in HOP and KPI. Then i will feel the benefits of this principle which will seal this training loop and make my lessons translate into true tarot knowledge at course completion, enhancing my ability to effectively provide readings and incorporate them into my concepts of identifying and creating healing pathways.

  6. I have to work with “commitment to action”.Though I start projects well, interest wanes with delays and obstacles.

  7. Reinforcement by frequent positive feedback is my choice of the most important CAP principle because we rarely hear or see recognition of our excellent efforts. Instead we only learn of our errors after they have occured.
    and
Learning By Teaching- This way knowledge (and skill) rubs off on team members.
Also, you start to ask more (better) questions if you have to explain something because then you really start to think about it.

  8. A good understanding of Knowledge into skill is important as a leader. Every good leader should be able to SHOW AND TELL whatever stuff he/she has. The only way he/she can achieve this, is by transferring knowledge into skill. When ideas are well presented trainees learn faster

  9. Commitment to action I think is the one for me – its my weakness so I’ll chose it for that reason moreovereover for me it is really structuring and understanding so that it is a genuine solid commitment that is scheduled and therefore really going to happen in practice

of course – this then allows the review which is the other side of this coin

  10. Reinforcement – is the key component for me. I am amazed at how for example i can do simple artithmetics in my sleep. It is because this has been reinforced so much it is part of me. I think given the amount of pressure that we face daily it would be advantageous if i can automatically apply these thinking skills. I believe for them to become engrained i will have to actively practice them daily.
