ATLC #05 – More on Leadership Thinking

6principles

In addition to Escape + Search = Think leadership thinking can also incorporate 6 principles which we emphasise. I have encouraged trainers and leaders to understand and master the Six CAP Principles.

Now click through and read about these six CAP principles and try to explore in your own mind the value of each of these ideas, then come back and do today’s DFQ.

DFQ #05:

Choose one of the six CAP principles, and say why you think a better understanding of that principle will help you to become a much better leader.

NOTE: After you post your comment today you’ve completed 5 DFQs and the first week of the 4 weeks of the 30-day Pipeline. That’s good. It means you are already establishing new cognitive patterns. Keep it up!

You may have noticed that I sent you 1 lesson a day for 3 days then missed a day. After this lesson, I’ll miss another day and then send you lesson #6 which starts the second week. That means you get 5 DFQs every 7 days.

  1. Commit to Action. Strategy and planning is the easy part for my group. To lead I need to demonstrate a commitment to action.

  2. Reinforcement; Noticing increments of progress in acquiring new skills and then recognising them in an appropriate way by feeding back information—cybernetically—for positive reinforcement (CPR) were fundamental principles of CAP

A better understanding of this principle will help me to go from one stage of personal development to the next. It is somewhat necessary for me to fully understand and complete a stage before beginning another to refrain from lingering on that particular stage. I have been known to linger on things and if I knew the full extent of a stage including the conclusion of that stage I feel that this would enable me to be able to fully relinquish that stage without lingering on it any longer than what is necessary and/or required therefore eradicating any form of regression.

  3. it is a toss up betweem 3 5 and 6 for me. if i had to pick one i would have to say 6 – reinforcement. this is something critical to leadership. those you lead need to know they are on the right tack, doing things right encouraged to go the right things agan and again

  4. I believe that by gaining a better understanding of the Commitment to Action principle, I will be able to become a better leader by grasping the idea of consistency.

  5. 1. Learning by teaching. This is a skill I am working on. Everytime I teach something of interest to me to someone else it shows me how much I know ( or don’t know ) about the topic and helps me to get clear about the topic.

  6. the principle of learning by teaching will encourage me to pass on what i have learnt and therefore reinforce the principle everytime i teach it. therefore becoming a better teacher.

  7. I will become a better leader by gaining a better understanding of the principle of learning by teaching. I have teachings, experiences and applications to share. I will a lot by the feedback and interaction of the teaching experience about how sound and presentable is the material banging around in my brain.

  8. I consider that for me the most important principle is Knowledge into Skill. I am learning by practicing at least 30 days a new technique than I put it to test and than I consider I have a new skill.

  9. Number 6 positive reinforcement and constant reflection on incremental changes is very important. For me if I don’t notice the change or reflect on it’s benefits have I really changed or benefitted someone else?

  10. As a trainer/consultant I try to put these into practice everyday when training and working on assignments. The one that poses me the most diffiiculty is 3. Measurement. What is needed is measuring hours of practice – and what was practiced. But instead what is easier to manage is outputs – the results.

Of course both are important, but measuring what was done in those hours of practice for corporate clients is always the tricky one to happen in reality. They just like their KPIs and their KPIs typically focus on the “outputs” and not the “inputs”
