ATLC #05 – More on Leadership Thinking

6principles

In addition to Escape + Search = Think leadership thinking can also incorporate 6 principles which we emphasise. I have encouraged trainers and leaders to understand and master the Six CAP Principles.

Now click through and read about these six CAP principles and try to explore in your own mind the value of each of these ideas, then come back and do today’s DFQ.

DFQ #05:

Choose one of the six CAP principles, and say why you think a better understanding of that principle will help you to become a much better leader.

NOTE: After you post your comment today you’ve completed 5 DFQs and the first week of the 4 weeks of the 30-day Pipeline. That’s good. It means you are already establishing new cognitive patterns. Keep it up!

You may have noticed that I sent you 1 lesson a day for 3 days then missed a day. After this lesson, I’ll miss another day and then send you lesson #6 which starts the second week. That means you get 5 DFQs every 7 days.

  1. I think that the CAP Principle #4: “Commitment to Action”. will help me to become a true leader. This because it is easier to show “grand” initiatives, but it is more difficult to stay on course in a daily basis.

  2. The principle of ‘Commitment to Action’ is the most important of the lot. Let us understand that merely the knowledge or the skill does not necessarily bring success. The attitude to accept realities and adopt change makes a lot of difference. It takes a lot of courage to walk out of the crowd into the hot seat and face the problem head on.

As the law of motion states: greatest effort is required to change from static to dynamic state and once the dynamic state is reached the force helps the forward momentum continue.

Action is the key to overcoming problems and achieving success.

  3. Am extremely interested on the Principle of converting/transfering knowledge into skill. Am very keen on acquiring a new knowledge that will help me utilize effectively and eficiently this knowledge that i already have. What an amazing light and joy this will bring into my life. My life will be more and more better than it is now. People around me will feel it. My community, state and nation will feel it. The world will fill it as i evolve to become more and more of myself (who i am to become). To Dr. Michael. Sir, I pray you find time to send me a detailed e-copy of the CAP Pricnciples and your approaches to there applications. I need to study it to learn more…. Would you do that for me? Thanks in anticipation. Best regards.

  4. 2. Knowledge into Skill:

I believe one can’t actually learn swimming without jumping in water. So unless one can not convert knowledge into skill, he can’t effectively work on other principles…

  5. Learning by Teaching is underrated and underused in business today. I will try to include it in our management program. Require management to teach and have teaching as part of what everybody must do to master a skill.

  6. Measurement – paying attention to measurement will help me to become a much better leader because it will help me identify much more clearly where I am at and what I need to do to increase my virtuosity.

  7. I am currently concentrating on the two skills Learning by Teaching
    and Knowledge into Skill.
I am applying these two principles to a lecturing job and building a counselling practice.
Soon I think that Measurement will become the vital skill. The more I practice the better I get.

  8. 4. Commitment to Action

This is the point were I fail the most. Understanding how to commit and move into action would change me to more effective person.

  9. Feedback

Providing appropriate and timely feedback will make me become a better leader. To the employees, it will demonstrate that I listen to what they say, think about it, and acknowledge or validate their messages. Those under my leadership would benefit through the reinforcing effect of feedback on their performance. In addition, feedback may also provide those under my leadership an opportunity to think and learn about what they can or cannot do. Even great thinkers require feedback which facilitates escape from a cvs into searching for an alternative or better view of a situation. Without feedback, I think all learning would be useless.

  10. Measurement

I think logging the time and doing the deliberate practice will help me be a better leader. Know what it really takes to master the subject or skill will allow me to be more realistic with my expectations of other people’s performance.

Additionally, as I have done the work, I may be able to teach it more effectively or minimally provide guidance based on experience.
