ATLC #05 – More on Leadership Thinking

6principles

In addition to Escape + Search = Think leadership thinking can also incorporate 6 principles which we emphasise. I have encouraged trainers and leaders to understand and master the Six CAP Principles.

Now click through and read about these six CAP principles and try to explore in your own mind the value of each of these ideas, then come back and do today’s DFQ.

DFQ #05:

Choose one of the six CAP principles, and say why you think a better understanding of that principle will help you to become a much better leader.

NOTE: After you post your comment today you’ve completed 5 DFQs and the first week of the 4 weeks of the 30-day Pipeline. That’s good. It means you are already establishing new cognitive patterns. Keep it up!

You may have noticed that I sent you 1 lesson a day for 3 days then missed a day. After this lesson, I’ll miss another day and then send you lesson #6 which starts the second week. That means you get 5 DFQs every 7 days.

  1. All six CAPs seem critical for success, but ‘learning by teaching’, ‘knowledge into skill’ and ‘committment to action’ resonate most with me. I think ‘Committment to action’ is particularly potent. If we can’t or don’t apply our knowledge as skills in everyday life then we can’t expect to see changes in our world – from workplace behaviour to global warming.

  2. Passing information onto somebody else is a good way of realising what I have learnt and skills I have developed.

  3. Learning by teaching – The more I teach about something I know the more I have to think about it. The more you teach the less you have to think about it……………..after a while it becomes part of your “system”. You don’t have to think before you walk, you just do it.

  4. To be a good leader or trainer you have to have a very good undestanding of what you have learnt yourself, before you are able to teach another person. To know if you are a good trainer you should be able to ask questions and by the responses know that the message has got across, if you feel that the your communication is unclear, you should have the patience to retry to explain the concept.

  5. To me measurement is the most important, I find that unless I can measure the progress, then the level of learning or understanding can not be realised.

  6. The most weakest of the six caps for me are no’s 5 and 6. To become more effective as an all round leader i will need to focus in more detail “follow up” and “reinforcement” techniques.

  7. Knowledge into Skill..I find that I learn well and easily by doing , which in turn reinforces the knowledge, or I take the bugs out of my undetstanding in developing or creating a desired result

  8. Learning by teaching:
By teaching others it actually puts emphasis on yourself to aquire/learn that piece of knowledge. Thus it reinforces the skill that you have aquired.

Also it is a great skill on passing knowledge to another person in a way in which they understand and hold on to.

  9. Learning by teaching. Teaching forces you to articulate and interpret things that you may take for granted, and could lead to a BVS.
