Lateral Thinking Certificate-Advanced (LTC-A) – Lesson #04 – Rate Your Own Level of Thinking …

In any highly competitive job environment the individual employee’s quality of thinking suggests his or her potential value to the employer. This value is the return on the payroll (ROP).

In business, one of the biggest opportunities for better return on payroll is engagement. Employees are engaged by their employers. Why? Because employers hire employees to pay attention to minding the shareholders’ business.

Salespeople are engaged by their customers. Why? Because customers choose salespeople who pay attention to meeting their expectations.

Engagement is all about attention and on the job, some employees pay more attention than others. In selling some salespeople pay more attention than others. Why is that? Because not everyone has the same level of thinking skills. Some thinkers manage their ATTENTION better than others.

According to GALLUP there are three types of employees: Engaged, Not-engaged and Actively Disengaged.

(In the Gallup Global Report Australia rated: 16% Engaged, 60% Not-Engaged and 14% Actively Disengaged).

  1. I think I wasted a lot of time doing things without understanding them and now I know what I should focus more on and do it smarter .

  2. Maybe it will be a good idea to make a chart of the twenty questions, put it up on the wall where I can see it easily and practise those parts where I lag, mainly the consequences part which is very very important to consider when taking any decision.

  3. I often think what is the other person thinking about, what are motivations (engaged, not engaged or disengaged).

  4. A lot of these questions are desirable traits to have. To say score yourself lowly on any of these is to be self-critical and modest, which is also a desirable trait and allows for better thinking.
