It looks like in Australia, like here in Europe, women feel being put at an disadvantage just “because they are women.” I do not think so, and there are numerrous examples showing that it is not necessarily so. It may be a dangerous trend to portion people into positions just based on gender. A person who qualifies for a position, and shows that he/she can handle it no matter the circumstances, should absolutely be eligible.
